FOUL LANGUAGE

Below is a list of swear words and insults in Thai language, you don't want to run around using these words while you are on holiday. If you learn these words you can then understand them when you hear other people use them, and that as far as you should go with it. Some words that you might think are a minor insult, could turn out to be far more offensive than you had intended.

THAI LANGUAGE
Thai Language is really not that easy to learn to speak fluently. The pronunciation is challenging for most Western tourists. Learning enough Thai to have simple conversations is really not that difficult. Most Thai people will appreciate you making an effort to communicate with them, and they will forgive you for making small mistakes and will try to help you along. You do want to be careful not to use many of the words I will teach you in this article, you should only learn to recognize these words when you hear them. I do not suggest using them. Many of the words in Thai language will include sounds that you are not familiar with, like words that begin with "ng", or rolling "r". This should not intimidate you, if you practice repeating what you hear, you should be OK. I will help you get started with a few common phrases on the topic of shopping and negotiating.

Very Ugly : Naa Kliet Mak

Liar : Kee Tua

Very Lazy : Kikiet Mak

Bullshit : Go Hok

IMPORTANT: Do not ever say these things to Thai people, you can get yourself in real trouble using some of these words and phrases. The phrase "Maa Mai Dek" meaning not suitable for a dog to eat, is considered to be one of the rudest things you can say in Thai language. It is far worse than it sounds in English. In English you may jokingly insult somebody by comparing them to an animal, however in Thai, comparing somebody to an animal is a far more serious insult (especially a buffalo). Thais consider the buffalo to be a symbol of stupidity, ignorance and lack of education. You should learn these words so that you can recognize them when you hear them (and you will hear them). You should NEVER use them yourself!

Just be careful not to try using any of these words if you travel to Thailand. If you were to say "MAA MAI DEK" in a restaurant, they might come running out of the kitchen with a butcher knife!

Great Read. I have a Thai wife so Mai Mee Stang should come in pretty useful. I don't think I dare use any of the other phrases though.
